Reading to Rover
Summer 2006: children at the Family Learning Center and the Louisville Public Library are Reading to Rover! Humane Society animal-assisted therapy dogs and volunteers are listening attentively to stories told by children. This program is designed to boost the reading skills of children in a safe environment and show youth that reading really can be fun. What better way for children to improve their reading skills and learn about caring for pets by reading and spending time with a non-judgmental, wet nosed listener!
Thank you to all the volunteers (both 2 legged and 4 legged) who are making a difference in the lives of local children, one outing at a time.
Animal Assisted Therapy volunteers and their pets also visit juvenile centers, hospices, Alzheimer’s units and other facilities. Shelter animals are also given the opportunity to visit senior retirement communities.
